I Can Dream Anything | Paul Jarman | TYO & friends

'To explore the universe and dare to dream...anything I dare to dream!' ❤ TYO is delighted to present this concert video of 'I Can Dream Anything', composer Paul Jarman's homage to the magic of the silver screen. This gorgeous work was the perfect choice to end TYO's August 2024 'Movie Music Magic' concert in Latrobe. 🎶 This collaborative performance, under the direction of Conductor Alexander Rodrigues, features young Tasmanian musicians aged seven to 19 from the TYO Chamber Orchestra, TYO Tasmanian Youth Chorale, Crescendo Choir, Crescendo Music Hub and Burnie Stringalong Orchestra. The various ensembles rehearsed separately across 10 weeks before putting the work together for the very first time on the day of the concert. Bravi! This performance was filmed by Caleb Miller of Mac40Media on 18 August 2024 at the Latrobe Memorial Hall; and is released with the kind permission of the composer, Paul Jarman. The Conductor is Alexander Rodrigues and the Concertmaster is Eden Shapter. At TYO, we love creating opportunities for young musicians from around the state to connect, share their love of music and perform together – and we couldn't do this without the support of Creative Australia and the State Government of Tasmania through DECYP and Arts Tasmania. Thank you so much for making these statewide collaborations possible. Thank you to all these outstanding young musicians; and to everyone involved in bringing this performance to life! A special shout out to the wonderful Latrobe audience, who made the concert such a special experience for the performers with their warm and enthusiastic support. If you would like to explore this lovely work with your choir, orchestra or ensembles, you can find information and sheet music samples here on Paul's website: https://www.pauljarman.com/composition/i-can-dream-anything/

Benjamin Raymond | 'Late Spring’s Remembrance' | The Tasmanian Youth Orchestra

This performance is the world premiere of 'Late Spring's Remembrance', a work by 19 year-old Tasmanian composer Benjamin (Benji) Raymond. The work was premiered on 26 November 2023 by the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra, under the direction of Christopher Bearman OAM. The performance was part of TYO's 'Rustica' concert in Hobart's historic Goods Shed; and was filmed by Mac40 Media. Benji says: "'Late Spring’s Remembrance' is a contribution to Remembrance Day, also known as Poppy Day in Australia, which falls on 11 November. This composition pays its respects to the many soldiers in Australia who lost their lives in the line of military duty. The piece contains six tempos in total. The reason for this is to provide listeners with an idea of the different themes, and flourishes of the context and different themes all throughout the piece." Benjamin Raymond, 19, is studying music at the University of Tasmania; including studying composition with Dr Maria Grenfell. Benji began to play the flute in Grade 5 for Southern Tasmania’s Combined Primary Schools Concert Band program, started playing piano soon afterwards, and for the past two years has been expanding his interest and skills in percussion. Benji began composing in Grade 9 as part of his studies in high school music class and says he was 'ineluctably' drawn to composition. It was exciting and compelling and could feel it expanding his mind in thrilling ways: “I hear the music instantly in my mind. I hear the melody and the chords and the parts for all the instruments.” Benjamin’s dream and heart’s desire is to pursue a career in composition for films, classical concerts, and maybe to compose a future theme for the Olympic games.
